| 2009-07-13 : Avantgarde Acoustic G2 speaker line is on the way |
Since the foundation of the company in 1991 the construction and appearance of Avantgarde Acoustic horn speakers has stayed more or less unchanged. In a business often dominated by short timed trends, this was conceived as a sign of stability and continuity, creating customer confidence and protecting the customer’s long term investment in a high quality loudspeaker system. On the other hand the expert knowledge - gained over many years of production and enriched by customer feedback - finally demanded for being applied, starting with practical details, i.e. for speaker setup and alignment, optical details, i.e. regarding proportions and finishes, and finally for sound-relevant parts, i.e. crossover parts and cabling. For the German High End show 2009 in Munich, Avantgarde Acoustic finally ventured the “big leap“ and premiered the realisation of ideas and innovations that have been collected over the past years. The G2 series has arrived! On-site response was almost overwhelming and the displayed samples of G2 parts went from hand to hand all day long: - the solid aluminium casted base frame - the spike assembly of the base frame, featuring solid 55 mm spikes and massive adjusting handles accessible from the top - the new screw-on mechanism of the horn assemblies, allowing for an independent mounting of horns and drivers - the customisable subwoofer covers, offering a variety of finishes, ranging from unobtrusive Nextel to metallic lacquers and high-gloss piano veneers - the new aluminium spacers and knurled head screws, connecting frame rails with housing cylinders and subwoofers The G2 models on display in Munich were still pre production samples, but the parts are meanwhile approved for series production and are scheduled to be available for the production lines by August, finally restructuring the factory (which will be the new factory by then, a story that will also be continued in this news section soon!) to manufacture G2 models. Although the newly designed G2 parts contribute considerably to the production cost, Avantgarde Acoustic will be able to adjust the pricing moderately. In the long run the G2 model assembly allows for a more flexible and more efficient production, an advantage that the Avantgarde Acoustic designers will gladly account for. Until the factory will finally be converted to G2 production lines – and depending on stock presumably for a certain additional transition time – the current product lines will naturally be available.
