Already in 2009, the Swiss electro-pop band YELLO issued its latest double album, which we’d like to introduce to you. YELLO consists of 2 main members, the allround-artist and ‘jack-of-all-trades’ Dieter Meier, and his colleague, singer and keyboarder Boris Blank. The group was originally founded in 1977/78 by Boris Blank and Carlos Perón, with Dieter Meier joining a bit later and Carlos Perón leaving YELLO in 1983.

While Blank is mainly a musician and composer (e.g. of movie scores), Dieter Meier is ‘cooking in many kitchens’: he’s a concept artist, eco-farmer, wine maker, elektronics entrepreneur, innkeeper, investor - and of course a singer. Some very prominent guest musicians were added to the ‘Touch’ concept, among them famous German trumpet player Till Brönner, Dorothee Oberlinger (flutist and professor at Salzburg Mozarteum), and the Swiss singer Heidi Happy, perfectly complementing the voices of Meier und Blank, whose creativity as a composer and skills as a ‘synthesizer-wizzard’ mainly shape the typical YELLO sound.

What is so typical about YELLO? Let’s start with the distinct, floating and spacious ‘wall of sound’, which Meier and Blank modulate by their own unique and surprising changes in dynamics and tempo, often complemented by unreckoned sounds and noises which add fine irony. And there’s of course the unique vocals of Meier und Blank, perfectly conveying the sometimes peculiar and often funny lyrics, another uniqueness of YELLO’s compositions.

And from an audiophile standpoint, YELLO has another typical attribute: their excellent sound! And that’s especially true for the ‘Touch’ album, which - despite a rather laid-back overall impression - provides lots of listening fun, letting you bathe in the sonic installations of those 2 Swiss sound wizzards.

‘Touch’ is available in a multitude of media: as a CD, as a CD + DVD package and - a true delicacy for the vinlyists - as a double LP!
